To teach Shedeur Sanders & Co. exactly this, Coach Prime enlisted the CU women’s soccer team. Because, after all, there’s always something to learn from players of another sport. 

“Teamworks” makes the dream work for the CU Buffs women’s soccer team

To make the final practice before Spring Break as insightful as possible, Deion Sanders briefed his players about his thought-provoking conversation with the soccer team. And to get his point across, Sanders asked three players to join the briefing. Well Off Media captured the conversation, which started with Sanders expressing his love for learning to help the Buffs improve.

“How can we make you all more consistent, more vibrant, more who you are,” said Sanders. He continued, “I said, ‘Ladies, what is the punishment or the accountability when someone’s late to practice or class?” Asking them to tell the football team what they said, one of the players revealed, “That doesn’t happen.” This took Coach Prime by surprise because how does that not happen? Especially considering a college athlete’s intense schedule.

One of the other players responded, “We just look at our Teamworks app, and it tells us where, when, and how to get there.” That had the entire room, including the soccer players and Deion Sanders, snickering. Seeing how the soccer team effectively used the Teamworks app to keep their schedules in check, Coach Prime wondered why his football team couldn’t do the same.

Being late was not something that happened in the soccer team. Considering this, Coach Prime prompted, “You said somebody would have to be stupid [to be late despite the Teamworks app].” One of the soccer players added while laughing, “We said a five-year-old could do it.” Explaining how the women’s soccer team is never late for practice and doesn’t miss study hall or workouts (things that presumably happen with his Buffs), Sanders asked, “What’s the difference between them and you all?”

To drive home the point, Coach Prime asked them if they would rather attend study hall to attend something they wanted to. The soccer players replied, “Study hall.” And that was because “they had to.” They didn’t think they had an option. This is the kind of discipline the CU Buffs women’s soccer team has. And Deion Sanders made it abundantly clear that he wants his team to learn from their accountability. Especially considering his “responsibility” outburst on the first day of spring training.

Deion Sanders lost his cool on the first day of spring training

If there’s anyone who knows best that success sparks from holding oneself responsible, it’s Deion Sanders. After teaching the Buffs about accountability the whole season, the 56-year-old HC wasn’t happy when he had to unleash his fury during spring training. Every once in a while, a fiery outburst is expected from everyone, especially when coaching a bunch of college lads.

After the Buffs ran a practice play, Sanders yelled at a player. He pointed at them and roared, “You don’t know what to do. Yes, you! Do you know what to do or not? Do you know your responsibility? What did I tell you?!” As far as off-season practice is concerned, Deion Sanders has been emphasizing the importance of accountability. Putting aside this rare outburst, the Buffs left a good first impression as the coaches of different positions felt optimistic about their training. 

In an on-campus press conference this past week, Coach Prime reflected on his new team and his second year coaching the Buffs. As reported by USA Today, expressing his confidence going into the 2024 season, Sanders stated, “We’re gonna win. I know that. You know that. We’re gonna win.”
