Deion Sanders is still dragged into the dirt months after the transfer season. But why? All kudos to the former Buffs player, Cormani McClain. Now that the CB is in a hot mess in his new home in Florida and may lose his place anytime soon, Coach Prime is held responsible for how bitter McClain’s future turned out to be.

His fallout with a squad as prominent as the Colorado Buffaloes has left a permanent mark on his career. But hold on! McClain’s ship has not completely sunk. John Buhler from FanSided chucked some praise his way.

McClain’s Florida departure buzz comes with a Deion Sanders blame

As per speculations, McClain’s time at Billy Napier’s Florida has not been as sweet as the ex-Buffs transfer thought. Currently, the CB is taking the heat for turning up late for meetings and practices. All these actions were enough for the On3 and GatorsOnline reporter, Nick de la Torre, to pass a brutal jab at McClain, “Just immature. Needs to grow up.” This news was not limited to the Florida nation, and the gossip reached Boulder. On July 16, PolkWay posted on X, “Just received word that Cormani McClain has been removed from the University of Florida football team… WOW.” Till this, it was okay until a Buffs fan re-tweeted with the caption, “They said Coach Prime was the reason…”

But did Coach Prime pull the strings on this? Partly, yes. Given Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes program’s outsize impact on college football, somewhere McClain failed to gain the trust. But again, why blame Coach Prime when it has been McClain’s call to move out, as he wanted to play for a “real” program? It’s sad to see how the CB is on his way to throwing away such a great future and his talents.

McClain struggles with trust beyond talent

Amidst the McClain hoopla, where all the CB received were negative remarks, Buhler said something positive. Dismissing the CB as the biggest locker room problem in Deion’s Colorado, he stated, “What is frustrating to me is McClain is arguably more talented than seemingly everyone who is either a true sophomore or a redshirt freshman in college football.”

But in the long run, will this talent save him? Probably not. As Buhler further enlightened, “Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to matter in the end. This is because a well-respected coach like Napier is not going to put someone out there he cannot trust, one who has not earned the trust of his teammates. Football is a team sport.” So the story’s moral is somewhere McClain runs loose on the ground of trust.

Earlier, it was Coach Prime; now, it is Coach Napier. He has lost his position by not putting in effort and taking things lightly. It’s high time McClain swapped playing hopscotch and made some serious upgrades. Only then will his wish to play for the “real program” come true.
