Ever since Cormani McClain severed ties with Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes, a storm of controversy has engulfed the player. From accusing Colorado of playing for “clicks” to expressing a lack of motivation under Coach Prime, McClain’s actions have been nothing short of dramatic.

Adding to the drama, McClain’s mother, Kaishay, also took to social media, claiming that McClain was on his own in his search for a new team. However, recent updates suggest that there may be more to this story than meets the eye.

McClain and his mother change tracks

Right after McClain hit the portal on April 19, Kaishay posted a message on X. The mother revealed, “Cormani has no one working under him or for him, he & I will be contacting the coaches directly!!! Thankful for all opportunities And to @DeionSanders & the buff nation 🦬 you guys are still appreciated no matter what! No lost love here! God bless.”

What she meant was that McClain was a one-man army with only the support of his mother and no agency like other players who had to approach programs. However, per the latest updates, ESPN’s analyst Adam Rittenberg spilled some tea, which put Kaishay’s statement in doubt. As tweeted by Rittenberg on May 12, “Source: Former Colorado cornerback Cormani McClain visited Florida on Friday, along with his mother and his agent Hector Rivas. They spent the day touring the facility and talking to the coaching staff. McClain is a Lakeland, Florida native and was ESPN’s No. 14 recruit in 2023.”

McClain is the top remaining player left on the transfer market yet to make his decision by a significant margin. For Florida Gators, adding a talent like him would be a big boost to a secondary that needs depth. Does that mean clots are clearing up for McClain?

McClain’s future seems to be hanging

Rittenberg is not the first person to expose McClain and his mother’s antics, as ISmokeHiphop on his YouTube podcast took the initiative. This was followed by Kaishay’s tweet, “Thankful to each and every Coach that has reached out and gave him another opportunity! God is good @CormaniMcclain7”. Taking this up, ISmokeHiphop commented, “Let’s talk truth right now. You don’t have a selected team that you have preference over. You lost that privilege to be the one selecting.”

Speculations have been rife about potential suitors for McClain, with programs like Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Texas, Georgia, and Oregon reportedly showing interest. However, YouTuber Mat Best shed some light on the situation, revealing that the chances of a collaboration with Georgia are a mere 1%. This revelation was attributed to McClain’s controversial departure from the Buffaloes and his public spat with Deion Sanders.

However, there seems to be a slight ray of hope now that McClain and his mother and agent have been spotted meeting the coaching staff in Florida. This will be like a second chance for the Florida native to live up to his claims to be a part of a “great and real program.”
