Colorado Buffaloes Governor Camden Dempsey, the new media face of the program, has taken on the charge to stamp Coach Prime as clean. In a recent media interaction, Dempsey addressed the allegation brought against Deion Sanders that plagued the program’s reputation, where the Buffs’ head coach’s attitude toward the players was put into question. Before this came a disastrous mass exodus during the transfer portal’s spring window, which triggered the allegations.

The courtesy for this goes to the former Buffaloes’ safety, Xavier Smith, who thought it wise to attack Sanders right after hitting the portal. He was not the only one; another Colorado transfer, Cormani McClain, walked on the same path of attacking the coach.

Governor Dempsey dismisses allegations brought against Deion Sanders

The first thing Smith did after making his way out of Colorado was give an interview to The Athletic’s Max Olson. He criticized the way Sanders handled the roster turnover ahead of the 2023 season. He brought up the charge, “He was destroying guys’ confidence and belief in themselves. The way he did it, it could’ve been done with a little more compassion.” Months later, Dempsey took this up in an interview.

The Governor decided to give Sanders a clean chit. He claimed,  “This article insinuated that coach Prime cussed a player out of our program and told him to clean his locker out using profanity and from what I’ve seen in my time here at this program that is simply not true.” To further highlight how it is unlikely for Sanders to do so, Dempsey resorted to the program’s vision, “I can tell you is that this program supports athletes in their personal and their professional lives… I do not believe that this story in any way reflects the direction that this program went with that player.” The clean chit was critical for Sanders, particularly after a social media feud.

Online tensions after Smith’s departure

Initially, Deion Sanders was taken aback by Smith’s accusation. On Thee Pregame Show, Coach Prime revealed about his feelings, “This is what’s strange to me… No one mistreats nobody, man. Like, we don’t do that. I don’t condone that. Y’all been around me. Y’all know how I get down. I don’t mistreat anybody. I don’t play that, I don’t condone that.” However, Deion Sanders’ attempt to come out clean was overshadowed by Shedeur’s tweet.

After Smith dragged Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes through the dirt, it was Shedeur who tried to take a stand. The Buffs QB tweeted about Smith, “Ion (sic) even remember him (to be honest). Bro had to be very mid at best.” It was under the tweet a fan commented questioning Shedeur’s talents and urging him to stop being the “coldest.” It was at this point that Coach Prime barged in to protect Shedeur and replied, “He will be a top 5 pick. Where yo son going ? Lololol I got time today. Lololol.”

Before Smith, it was another transfer, Cormani McClain, who charged Deion’s Buffaloes to be “playing for clicks.” However, the Buffs have moved forward from these negative experiences and are now focusing on making the best out of their newly formed roster.
