Joey McGuire may have secured his spot on Deion Sanders Jr.’s favorites list. Wondering why? The Texas Tech head coach warmly welcomed Deion Sanders to the Big 12 block on July 9. McGuire just didn’t highlight Deion’s talent as the Buffs HC in the media interaction. Instead, he crowned him the “best dad of a player.”

This was enough to woo Bucky, who threw a gratitude parade for the coach on X. Being the best dad for his kids is not enough for Deion. Hence, he takes up the role of the ultimate father figure and ensures that he inspires and guides the Colorado squad.

This year is special as Deion’s Colorado will join Arizona State, Arizona, and Utah as the conference’s latest additions to make up the first-ever 16-team Big 12. Here, Texas Tech HC ensured a warm reception. Bucky seemed to be touched by McGuire’s efforts, enough for the Well Off Media tycoon to take to X to shower grateful glitter on the coach, “My high school coach my freshman year at Cedar Hill High School. Coach McGuire is the man. He a great coach & also lets players truly be themselves.” And this worked like magic!

During a press conference amid the Big 12 media days, McGuire was one of eight head coaches to take the podium at Allegiant Stadium. Marking their comeback in Big 12 after the 2010 season, the HC looked happy to see Deion in the same conference and stated, “I’m a Texan and grew up in the old Southwest Conference and the old Big 12, so it’s great to see Colorado back in the right conference.” The two coaches have known each other for quite a long time, enough for McGuire to talk about the other sides of Deion. He started with, “I always tell everybody, I coached Bucky — his oldest son — in high school and he’s honestly the best dad of a player that I’ve ever had.”

Coach Prime’s commitment to his sons extends to his Buffs players roster, treating them no differently.

The inspiring speech given by Deion on Father’s Day

On Father’s Day last month, Coach Prime posted a video coming up with a thought-provoking speech for the Buffs. It takes one big heart, like Deion, to improve the players’ talents while guiding them through life’s tough turns. The caption of the video said it all, “FATHERHOOD. It’s just not today. It’s EVERYDAY #CoachPrime,” Hence, this is a commitment that the Buffs HC embraces wholeheartedly.

Through the video, Deion sent a message to the players’ fathers and advised them not to dispose of their expectations of their kids.“You got a tremendous responsibility. That’s to raise a young man or a young woman. Not necessarily the way you were raised but the way you seem fit,” advised Coach Prime. Since the Buffs are away from their fathers in the CU camps, Deion fills in the place.

His utmost concern is for the players. So much so that it is a unique hiring criterion for his coaching roaster. “The thing that I love about this coaching staff is I would not hire them if they weren’t great fathers. That’s the consistency, that’s the commonality that we share,” claimed the Buffs HC. The Colorado squad is living the football fairy tale to be under Coach Prime’s umbrella.
