Deion Sanders entered Colorado amid much hype after beginning the season with three back-to-back victories. However, the ending was disappointing as they finished 4-8 without making it to the Pac-12 championship. Even so, he was also named SI’s Sportsperson of the Year. How?

If you look at his achievements beyond the football field, he deserves the hype, as his arrival in Boulder led to an economic surge of $113.2 million. And while he may have been good for business, he’s also affecting the culture in Colorado as a beacon for the black community. The recent report will showcase Coach Prime’s credibility in Boulder.

DNVR Buffs recently posted on X about how Deion Sanders culturally impacts the University of Colorado Boulder with his Prime Effect. According to the report, CU “received a record-breaking 68,000 applications for the fall of 2024 so far, about a 20% increase from last year.” Among these applications, Black and African American students account for about 50.5%.

The report showcases Deion Sanders’ impressive leadership capabilities that affected the football field and proved to be a cultural blessing. When he joined Boulder in December 2022, only about 1.3% of the people in the city were black. According to Clark Atlanta University professor Christopher K. Bass, Deion deserves all the cultural credit he’s getting because “as a Black man in sports, he stands for something we typically don’t see. He gives it to his players hard but he gives it with love… When he goes up and he hugs his players, when he loves on his players, it represents what we all know as a community: that Black men do love on their children. So it goes well beyond the football field.” In addition to being a cultural phenomenon, Deion Sanders is also good for business.
