It’s playtime, and did Donovan Edwards just hit a fortune!? The Michigan Wolverines RB and one of the EA Sports CFB 25 cover stars, Edwards, is already hooked on the game. And guess what? He had pulled out one of the most powerful cards. On July 13, Edwards’ story on Instagram shows him pulling out the best card from the junior pack: that’s of none other than his fellow Wolverine, Will Johnson. The same Johnson grabbed the first spot in College Football 25 player rankings, while Colorado Buffaloes’ dual-threat Travis Hunter was pushed too far below.

It’s little less than a week left for EA Sports to pull the curtains, and Edwards already has a big reason to wait with bated breath for July 19. And what better way to start? The EA Sports cover star did not keep his win to himself and instead took to Instagram to share a snap of his television screen. While drawing cards is all about big hits and misses, Lady Luck gave Edwards a nod. Out of all 99 players, the RB laid hands on Johnson. And here came the celebration of his small win as he proudly flaunted, “Pulled the best card out the pack (laughing emoji).”

He had enough reasons to flaunt, after all. While not a single player managed to earn the coveted 99 overall ranking, Wilson led the way with a 96 overall and secured the top position. Does that mean Michigan now casts a shadow over the Colorado Buffaloes’ dream?

On July 10, EA Sports College posted the top 10 list of game-changers this season. And wait, what!? Did Hunter just fall to the No. 6 position? Unfortunately, yes. The Wilson craze has overtaken EA Sports CFB 25. He is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign where he amassed 27 tackles and four interceptions. Besides, he was the top dog in sealing the victory for the Wolverines when he picked a pass from Washington Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. While Edwards is going gaga over his latest card pick, a huge mess surrounds his overall rating.

Hayes Fawcett’s X post sparks debate on Edwards’ rankings

The #GoBlue fever is on as Johnson tops the chart. Edwards is not far behind, as Hayes Fawcett posted on X on July 8, revealing various attributes of the RB. The numbers went as 91 overall rankings, 92 speed, 94 ball-carrying vision, and 85 break tackle. This was enough to divide the college football fans into two groups. To some, the rankings seemed accurate, while to others, Edwards got the long end of the stick.

The ranking was correct to a fan, “Seems accurate.  Should be a bump when playing Ohio State,” but it followed a catch as Edwards would need a better ranking to take hold over their arch-rivals, Ohio State Buckeyes. Edwards did not just touch the hearts of the Wolverines fans, as another Buckeyes fan poured in his support, “As a Buckeye fan respect to DE who’s a great player and good person. Can’t wait to see his success at the next level he reminds me of Zeke with his laid back personality and dominance on the field.” He whipped out a comparison between Edwards and Ezekiel “Zeke” Eliot, the Dallas Cowboys’ RB.

Mirroring the NFL legend is a big compliment in itself. Many fans openly disagreed with the rankings, tagging Edwards’ rating as “overrated” or “wack.” Edwards became the first player since the commencement of the BCS era to amass more than one 40-yard touchdown. EA Sports CFB 25 seems to be reigned by the “GoBlue” fever.
