A few days back Colorado Buffaloes HC, Deion Sanders took a session of the players for not channeling their energy and focus to the program in the ideal manner. Prime took a session with the players accusing the players based on certain grounds.  Now former Las Vegas Raiders linebacker, Will Crompton has backed up Coach Prime’s words.

According to Coach Prime, student-athletes are allowing laziness to reign over them. Crompton took up Sanders’ viewpoint pointing out how the athletes fail to make use of their networking opportunities.

Crompton carries on Deion Sanders’ concern

In the video that Crompton later posted on Twitter, he highlights how it is important for the players to make interest outside football a priority while they are still in high school. To strengthen his point he draws reference saying, “Coach Prime last week churned out his team whether it’s laziness in the classroom or have their hand on themselves academically.”

Crompton shared the sad news of how he lost one of his former teammates to liver failure who apparently was homeless. To point out how student-athletes can avoid such a future, he highlighted the importance of networking. Since student-athletes are barred from receiving any salary or insurance in case of any insurance, networking is the only thing they can rely on. As per the reports presented by the NCAA, out of every 1000 college football players, 8.9 of them get seriously injured each year.

It gets more difficult if they don’t get drafted into the NFL. In that case, it increases the financial strain, and have to try their luck in alternative leagues like CFL or Arena Football League. According to Crompton, “If you are a scholarship athlete you have such a major headstart than the majority of the people.”  This showcases how important Deion’s talk with his squad was, and how vested he is in their future interests.

Deion Sanders take on student-athletes

As Coach Prime addressed the student-athletes in a discussion session, he read out the letter written by the professor. It went like this, “This semester has been extremely challenging for me as a professor I have never felt so disrespected in my 10 years of teaching. Students do not follow even minimally and it slows down my class so much they make it clear that they don’t want to be here and they have very little personal responsibility.”

He further raised concern to Deion Sanders about how the players are only concerned about themselves as the coach reads out, “You ain’t doing nothing you in a relationship but you ain’t got no love.” The players are too disoriented to make use of the chance they have received to be able to work with a roster having 127 years of NFL experience.

Even though the student-athletes are not in a position to benefit financially considering the NCAA regulations, they are lucky enough to focus on their intellectual growth. As pointed out by both Compton and Sanders, the players must channel their attention to improve their gameplay while at the same time working on their networks.
