With an eye on the 2025 NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders thought it wise to compare himself with NFL legends Tom Brady and Michael Vick to boost his stocks. Although the Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback is confident about his talents, Colorado alum and seven-year NFL veteran Matt McChesney is somewhat unconvinced by this comparison.

McChesney downplays the Brady-Vick comparison, suggesting another big name whose talents better match Shedeur’s: Randall Cunningham. McChesney highlights Deion Sanders’ son as an absolute trailblazer.

Meanwhile, as the quarterback’s endorsement proceeds, reports say that NFL scouts are moving on with Carson Beck ahead of Shedeur.

McChesney’s balanced take on Shedeur

McChesney was brutal about Shedeur, who was basking in his self-comparison with the great Tom Brady. The Colorado alum ripped the Buffs quarterback with his claim, “That’s a ridiculous comparison.” He highlighted how it would be worthy of Shedeur to compare himself to the TB12 only when he steps into the NFL, not before that. Besides, McChesney found it hard to pick up the common traits between the Buffs QB and Vick since it’s rare to find someone who has “anything in common with Michael Vick. Michael Vick is a goddamn freak,” as McChesney stressed.

However, there is nothing for Shedeur to feel wrong about, as instantly, the Colorado alum had something good for the QB. According to McChesney, “If you want to say he’s a combo someone with how long he is maybe its R Cunningham.” After dropping the legendary quarterback’s name, he highlighted how Shedeur has been a path breaker in his case, “Shedeur is kind of like one of one and he’s he’s kind of something like I’ve never really seen before… he’s the son of a legend. Most legends’ sons are not great players and he’s obviously thrown that away he’s a f*cking animal of a player.” Even though his talents were appreciated, the mock drafts tell a different story.

Beck’s endorsement challenges Shedeur’s prospects ahead of the draft

While Deion Sanders foresees his son securing the No. 1 spot in the 2025 NFL draft, it is the Georgia Bulldogs’ QB Beck who is believed to outshine Shedeur. According to FanDuel’s prediction, Beck is now the favorite to be the first pick next year at +300, with Sanders next at +450. The Georgia QB had a solid junior campaign, throwing for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 72.4% of his passes. In contrast, Shedeur emerged as the most sacked player last season.

However, Shedeur is expected to compete neck-to-neck with Beck. Despite the letdown from a solid start, Sanders finished with 3,230 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and three picks, and he also rushed for four TDs. However, the heavy endorsement is working in Beck’s favor ahead of the draft. Amidst the mock drafts, on June 8, John “Draft” Vogel shared his opinion in favor of the Bulldogs’ QB.

“Y’all have to realize that Carson Beck is the best QB entering the 2025 NFL draft. I still see a lot of debate about this. Right now it’s not even close. Beck by a mile,” confidently claimed the analyst. Now that McChesney has dropped Randall Cunningham’s name, will that soften the blow for Shedeur and earn him a place above Beck?
