Giants Swiftly React to Sean Payton & Co’s “Plans” to Sign J.J McCarthy by Booking a Private Workout With Michigan QB

The JJ McCarthy race is getting a tad too real for the NFL world. With McCarthy being the most-discussed player in the 2024 NFL draft, teams having the top 10 first-round picks are deploying the smartest of their strategies to secure the QB. First, there were 6 heavyweights from the mix who began with initial interviews with McCarthy. The competition between most of them still stands. However, the fiercest competitors remaining in the JJ McCarthy race are the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants.
Brian Daboll called the shots on Thursday by giving a smack to the Giants’ strategy of convincing, or rather, luring McCarthy away. Sean Payton and Co. had just finished their workout session with the QB days ago when the Giants dropped the announcement of scheduling a similar workout session with JJ McCarthy.
J.J. McCarthy has a private workout with the Giants booked. It’s on Easter Sunday, per Pat.
Remember, Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll couldn’t make his Pro Day. Still, the Giants are expected to do private workouts with most of the top QBs in the draft. https://t.co/vd3y6Q4Ye9

Despite Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll not being able to make it to the much-talked-about performance of JJ McCarthy on the Michigan Pro Day, they are still expected to hit the road to Ann Arbor on Easter Sunday for a private workout with McCarthy, per Pat Leonard. Daboll and the whole of the Giants’ scouting team know about the upper hand they have against the Broncos with their No. 6 overall pick. Their QB, Daniel Jones, is recovering from a torn ACL and his regression on the field was something that the Giants need to address. So, if the Broncos want to secure McCarthy before anyone, the only option they would have would be to trade up.
Sean Payton on trading up
“It’s realistic,” confessed Payton when asked about the chances of The Broncos trading up. With their QB room in shambles following the Russell Wilson disaster, the Broncos need a good QB to handle the reins of the starting position. They do have Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci, but Payton won’t completely rely on only them, since he is leading the QB search this season.

Their private workout session with JJ McCarthy, per the workout routine suggested by the QB and per the reactions of Payton and Co, the day seemingly went well. The team could potentially trade up by striking a pact with one of the other teams, most probably with the Chargers or the Cardinals.
