Shannon Sharpe and his co-host Ocho Cinco had a hearty laugh when they read Deion Sanders’ most recent confession. Safe to say to say, the NightCap hosts are all too familiar with Deion’s antics. Rather, the tweets he was making were enough to lead to this. Right from his boastful reply about Shedeur Sanders being a top 5 draft pick in the 2025 draft, to his beef with Xavier Smith, safe to say the past week was eventful enough for the Sanders family.
Seemingly wanting to put an end to it, Sanders dropped a confession. “Coach Prime defends his recent tweets about former players by saying, ‘I was bored. I got to do better and not ride with it but I was bored. I didn’t say nothing hurtful. I don’t attack people,” Sharpe read in his podcast, The NightCap.

Well, the ‘bored’ part did not sit well with anyone, let alone with Sharpe and Cinco. Momentarily at a loss for words, Sharpe took a laugh at Sanders’ poorly made excuse. What came out of Sharpe’s mouth next was worth the pause. “Yeah, stupid man. Give me your phone time,” Sharpe said, getting a big oh-laugh from his co-host.
With this, the saga of Prime’s world driving the NCAA world nearly unhinged continues. The controversy erupted when Sanders commented on a tweet containing Jaheim Ward’s, a former Buffs player’s, stats in his new school Austin Peay State University, which only had 8 solo tackles.

Sanders jumped in to chime the words “Lawd Jesus” in. For those guessing, it backfired, brutally. Clarifying in an interview, Sanders said, “That’s really what I meant, and I think that was taken wrong. I think that was taken sideways or something else.” Prime gained several critics for this. However, the people who believed firmly in Sanders’ football excellence stood strong beside him.

The critics casting the scrutiny were plenty, but Prime’s efforts throughout the years weren’t completely ignored as senior NFL journalist Keyshawn Johnson dismissed all criticisms surrounding Prime. Calling it ‘Deion hate’, Johnson stated in his ‘All Facts, No Brakes’ show, “Now this is all part of the Deion hate. This all that is they gonna do that. It’s a Deion hate.”

Johnson didn’t halt at defending just Prime though. Going a step forward, the NFL veteran also defended Deion’s words about his son Shedeur, defending the QB indirectly. “Shedeur gonna be Shedeur, bottom line and he’ll be one of the top players off the board when his time comes,” Johnson said, disregarding all the buzz surrounding Shedeur Sanders ending up in the top 5 draft picks. The Deion debate has split the NFL folks into two halves and the fans will just have to wait and see how it unfolds.
