“He Had 93 Touchdowns”: Colin Cowherd Settles Caleb Williams vs. Shedeur Sanders Debate on Who Is a Better QB Prospect

A hot debate is brewing on who the top quarterback is — Caleb Williams or Shedeur Sanders. Coach Deion Sanders finds himself in a tricky spot. As a coach, he sees potential in both players. But as a proud dad, he’s publicly praised his son, Shedeur, predicting a bright future for him and star cornerback Travis Hunter in the upcoming draft. Sanders even suggests they might pull an “Eli Manning,” refusing to play for teams that aren’t a good fit. He also openly stated that he wouldn’t want Shedeur to choose a cold-weather team.
However, this bold stance has mixed opinions. Some admire Sanders’ firm support for his son, while others urge a dose of reality. Sportscaster Colin Cowherd recently weighed in, comparing Shedeur Sanders’ situation to the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the 2024 draft class. He uses stats to win the debate, not words.

Sports analyst Colin Cowherd doesn’t see much competition between Shedeur Sanders and the No. 1 quarterback prospect, Caleb Williams. According to Cowherd, the stats clearly favor Williams. “Last two years without an elite offensive teammate he [Caleb Williams] had 93 touchdowns… and 10 picks,” he said. Caleb is an elite MVP player and Heisman Trophy winner. Also, he had the best play in 2022, bagging the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Cowherd throws shade at Sanders, saying, “I can like Shedeur Sanders, I don’t think he’s close to the power thrower of Caleb Williams.”

While some might defend Sanders’ stats by blaming a weak offense, Cowherd counters that “both had bad offensive lines this year,” but their numbers still differ significantly. Williams averages 9.2 passing touchdowns per game compared to Sanders’ 7.7. Cowherd concluded the argument by saying, “The more I saw of Shedeur, the less I liked him.” While Shedeur might have his supporters, Cowherd’s analysis suggests Caleb Williams stands out as the clear favorite quarterback prospect. Even Coach Prime might agree with it.

Caleb Williams crowned top QB prospect, even by Deion
Last season, Shedeur Sanders appeared to have the edge over Caleb Williams. Their head-to-head battle in the Buffs vs. USC game (won 48-41 by USC) showcased their talents. Since then, the tables have turned more in favor of Caleb Williams. Even Coach Prime agrees that Caleb probably would have been drafted first if they were both in the 2024 draft. He admits Shedeur “probably would have been the second quarterback off the board.”

Deion, a seasoned NFL veteran, sees a slight gap between the two quarterbacks. His son Shedeur boasts a strong arm and delivers accurate throws. However, Caleb’s exceptional accuracy, especially on the run, gives him the edge statistically. But the gap isn’t unbeatable. With another season to prove himself, Shedeur has 12 games to change the narrative and potentially become a top pick in the 2025 draft. This quarterback race is far from over, and we would like to know your thoughts on that in the comments below.
