While rivalries are the heartthrob of the NFL, experienced personalities supporting each other are something that the sport cherishes. Whenever one gets into the negative talks, the other uses the best of his reach to defend him. Robert Griffin III, better known as RGIII, assumed the role of that defender for JJ McCarthy in his recent interview with Mina Kimes.
JJ McCarthy is one of the hottest deals in the 2024 NFL’s pre-draft market. Following the suit, his skyrocketing drafts also became the hottest topic amongst analysts. Several claims were made against McCarthy, claiming his high draft stocks had something wrong. Even Jim Harbaugh’s words of praise for the QB weren’t spared. However, turning up like a true hero, RGIII came to his rescue.

RGIII to JJ McCarthy’s rescue

Since the clouds of criticism surrounding McCarthy kept getting darker and darker, RGIII jumped to shield McCarthy by giving his two cents on why McCarthy deserves every last ounce of the praise and hype he is getting. “I do believe that JJ McCarthy has the same things and some people are saying right now that JJ is overrated with all the hype that’s been going on, I actually think he’s underrated,” RGIII said in his interview.

Continuing further, he added, “The reason I say that is he was not asked to do what the rest of the guys in his draft class were asked to do. I know that JJ coming into Michigan was a runner right, his athleticism was everything, and because he didn’t show that on tape, because he wasn’t asked to be a runner, a lot of people are now thinking that he only has functional athleticism. Like the guy’s a great athlete.”
If all this was not enough to establish JJ McCarthy as the legitimate rising QB in the NFL Draft market, he even made comparisons with several other stars, explaining that McCarthy is better among the two. An inevitable comparison was of him and the projected draft 1 pick Caleb Williams.
