Even when J.J. McCarthy was still sleeping peacefully in his mother’s womb, his becoming a quarterback in the future was determined. The YouTube program, “The Rich Eisen Show” recently had the quarterback as the guest and what better way to pump the player up ahead of the NFL Draft than an emotional video? The unearthed home clip showed how the Draft prospect’s father predicted his son’s future right on the day he was born.

The clip that has been taken up as a reference shows the date to be “1/20/2003”, the very day that the quarterback was born. In the video, captured by his dad is seen having a conversation with McCarthy’s mother, Megan who was sitting in the hospital bed on the verge of labor. He suggested her the name he wants for his son, “I like Jonathan James and I want to call him J.J”. What follows in the conversation is manifesting J.J.’s destiny as his dad proudly predicted, “He’s gonna be daddy’s little quarterback.’”

However, not many would believe that McCarthy saw this video for the first time in his 21-year-old life only six months back. On the show, the emotional quarterback confessed, “I was just like, ‘How come I didn’t see this early?’ He said, ‘I was just waiting.’ He’s a patient guy.” It was the first that the video played in public. Noting this, it is assumed that McCarthy’s father waited for the golden opportunity to disclose the video and what better time than now that his son is about to take an important step in his life.

Crucial times wait ahead of McCarthy

Jim McCarthy won’t have to wait much longer to see his son become an NFL quarterback. Now that the draft is only a day away in Detroit, much is happening surrounding the 21-year-old. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 219 pounds, McCarthy ticks all the checkboxes as far as prototypical NFL quarterback size is concerned.

In the NCAA platform, he shot to success by bringing home the first national championship for the Michigan Wolverines since 1997. Carrying this legacy, he is expected to go first overall to the Chicago Bears, having a close call with Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye who is likely to go second and third overall. However, at the show, McCarthy seems to be adding a touch of intrigue as he reveals his idea of heading forward with the New York Giants after the draft. “New York Giants, I’ve spent the most time with. They’re a phenomenal staff”, claimed McCarthy.

However, the scenario of the Giants drafting McCarthy has been the latest progress. In the 2019 NFL Draft, New York signed Daniel Jones to a four-year extension. But he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 9 that left Brian Daboll to consider the young quarterback. No matter where he lands up, McCarthy will be always his ‘daddy’s little quarterback’.
