J.J. McCarthy in Pole Position to Be Drafted by Commanders After Jayden Daniels’ Meeting Doesn’t Go According to Plan

The enigma surrounding the choice of pick No.2 in the 2024 NFL draft might finally be clearing up. The back and forth between JJ McCarthy and Jayden Daniels for the Washington Commanders was almost getting to the fans’ nerves when Adam Schefter came with the latest intel from the FedEx Field.

Earlier this week, Schefter confidently told the fans to get their Jayden Daniels jerseys on the Trap or Dive podcast. Now, just after a few days, the narrative changed from Schefter. “The agent of Jayden Daniels, Ron Butler, sounded off on social media last night. He didn’t seem particularly pleased with the process,” Schefter reported on ESPN’s Get Up.

Schefter assumed the reason for it to be the collective 30 visit. The new force at Commanders went against the book for their 30 visits, amassing over 20 draft prospects at once, unlike the traditional one-on-one approach. As a result, Jayden Daniels attended the FedEx Field meeting with Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr. “I think Jayden Daniels thought it would be a visit with just him meeting with the Commanders,” Schefter said.

Daniels’ agent not being happy with the decision might unfold into something big on draft night, like him pulling an Eli Manning. If so, then the Overall No.2 position becomes wide open for JJ McCarthy and Drake Maye. Since the topic quickly became the talk of the town, Schefter brought one more thing to light on the Pat McAfee show– Caleb Williams was not present in the QB speed dating with the Commanders.

What this means for Jayden Daniels is he has the tiny possibility of ending up on the Bears’ roster, if not on the Commanders’ roster. If something wild happens like this, the Commanders know who would be the best pick to bolster their QB department.

JJ McCarthy on Washington Commanders board

Michael Holley said on NBC Sports Boston that he was “hearing more and more chatter that JJ McCarthy is high, if not the first, on the boards of the Washington Commanders and the New England Patriots.” Hence, per Holley, JJ McCarthy has a solid shot at going top 3. For Jayden Daniels, however, that cannot be said for sure as of now.

Since Jayden Daniels is an elite-level QB like JJ McCarthy, he can be expected to go No.3 as the Patriots are also on the lookout for a QB, if JJ McCarthy lands in Washington. With the Commanders now posing as a top potential team to draft McCarthy, it would be a huge matter of concern for the teams behind in the lineup.

The Vikings are rumored to trade up for McCarthy. If the Commanders draft McCarthy, all the efforts of the Vikings in securing a potential trade-up would go down the drain. So will JJ McCarthy be available on the draft board till the Vikings get to pick or will the Commanders pick him at No.2? Drop your predictions in the comments.
