A tug-of-war between Michigan and the Chargers has reached the cusp of its conclusion; the prize of it is Steve Clinkscale. Each of the teams wants Michigan’s Co-DC, however, both have their restrictions. Jim Harbaugh made a tough job tougher for Sherrone Moore at Michigan by taking away the well-settled staff with him at the Chargers. Now, Moore not only has to find a replacement for them all but also stays in a constant state of fright about some or the other leaving the team.

As of now, Sherrone Moore has finalized two replacements, Justin Tress as a replacement for former director of strength and conditioning Ben Herbert and Don ‘Wink’ Martindale as the replacement for former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Safe to say, Moore took his sweet time to announce Minter’s replacement, mainly because of the challenges he had. The first one being a worthy candidate who could match or exceed Minter’s abilities. And second, the in-house options that Moore was earlier considering for replacement engaging in talks with the Chargers for the position of defensive ends coach. Steve Clinkscale, the Co-DC at Michigan, was the top candidate for the DC vacancy. The only hindrance was his involvement with the Chargers.

Clinckscale decided to take the wager of risking Michigan’s DC role for the Chargers but to no avail. As On3’s guest, Clayton Safie released some disruptions in ‘finer details’ happening with the Chargers. “Maybe there were issues with the Los Angeles paying his buyout or just kind of the finer details,” mentioned he. Hence, per the reports, Clink might still work on his contract extension with Santa Ono. However, Sayfie also reported, “Till Jim Harbaugh hires a DEs coach you know people here would be a little bit nervous.”

Naturally, given the influence, Jim Harbaugh commands on his team at Michigan. While their $45 million salary cap still binds them, Harbaugh would be more than willing to add another exceptional coach to his staff.

Looking at Jim Harbaugh’s side of hiring Clink, the Chargers are bound by a salary cap of $45 million, which they are exceeding when they consider the 4 overdue veteran players for the 2024 season, let alone the staff.
