Jim Harbaugh, taking over the Chargers’ head coaching job, has come as a beacon of hope amidst the drowning 5-12 record the Chargers had this season. While the Chargers had a good roster, they still landed the last spot in the AFC West, mainly because Satley could not leverage the players’ skills. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes that Harbaugh “can get them going but they need more juice at several positions right now.”

Fox Sports’ Emmanuel Ocho fosters a similar opinion on the Chargers roster. The difference is his disappointment with the Chargers QB. Justin Herbert hasn’t even started the job as it pertains to winning games,” he opined on Speak. Herbert’s performance this season failed to impress him as he added, “All the pressure for my money is on Justin Herbert because I was not a loser. Herbert at this point in time, he is.”

After amassing a plethora of accolades like Rose Bowl offensive MVP and the receiver of the William V Trophy, Herbert was selected by the Chargers as a first-round sixth overall in the 2020 draft. During his first season, he overtook Tyrod Taylor to start his first game. Since then, there has been no looking back for him. In 2023, Burrow overtook Lamar Jackson to become the highest-paid player in NFL history with his $262.5 million contract extension. However, shortly after that, on December 12, he was reserved because of injury, ending his season.

While his pay scale astounded many, his performance this season didn’t. Along with his contract amount, the expectations of him increased, leading to fans being disappointed. However, with the entry of Harbaugh in the picture, predictions quickly changed for the Chargers.

The sky-high expectations from Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh’s records have made him the star head coach in the NFL even before he stepped his foot on the field with the Chargers. Acho is fascinated with Harbaugh’s do-or-die approach, as it reminds fans of his nearly flawless record. “12 wins at Stanford. Never been done before,” stated he.

When Harbaugh shifted to Michigan, their mightiest rival was Ohio State, who beat them five consecutive times. However, Ocho recalled, “He beat Ohio State. He was like now I want to finish the job. Further speaking about his time in the NFL with the 49ers, he said, “The Niners are very low, the franchise at the time, takes them to the Super Bowl, but he’s like, you know what? I’m coming back to the NFL to finish the job.”
