“You can get him out of Alabama but you can’t get Alabama out of him” was a saying that was found in the headlines when Nick Saban was spotted at the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball game with his wife Terry Saban recently. Well, the saying stands true, and Saban continues to prove it so by his actions. After all, it’s a 16-season bond we’re talking about!
In his recent appearance in the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Kalen DeBoer uncovered a lot of behind-the-scenes secrets going on in Alabama. The one that piqued the ears of Nick Saban fans the most was when DeBoer mentioned how passionately Nick Saban continues to guide him and his team, despite his retirement. Alabama’s new head coach couldn’t stop emphasizing how helpful Saban has been in making him learn how things are done at Crimson Tide.
“Oh, he’s been great. He’s just been amazing. I think a lot of the conversations just been me understanding probably who’s here, how things have been done, any questions just popped up and I think as we go through the next couple months, that we continue to have more of those questions just on a what’s the best way. Why did you take this way here? And why was this practice set up like that? There’s just little things that maybe were done in a different way. He’s been nothing but great, giving his perspective on all of it,” DeBoer said.

Moreover, it’s not just DeBoer who’s easing into his new role. It’s also the new defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack, who is easing into the role at Crimson Tide. DeBoer also confessed that Saban’s availability, be it for him or Wommack, is commendable, given that he is no longer accountable to the organization. Wommack’s addition to DeBoer’s staff is the new beacon of hope that the University of Alabama needed amidst the chaos of the post-Nick Saban era.

Alabama Crimson Tide DC: Kane Wammock
The former head coach at the University of South Alabama made the move on Tuesday. Along with being the DC, Wommack would also coach the inside linebackers. To DeBoer’s advantage, he and Wommack have worked together previously. Back in 2019, Kalen DeBoer served as the offensive coordinator at Indiana in 2019, the same year when Wommack was working as a DC there.
