Chicago Bears trading up Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers had some bigger plans attached to it. In the latest video, Bears’ defensive end Montez Sweat highlighted how it was a dignified exit for Fields. Talking optimistically about the player, Sweat re-iterated how Fields maintained his sincerity toward the franchise throughout.

Being very particular about his actions, he gave everything to the team. However, Fields’ luck did not favor him, and the Bears moved on from him to draft Caleb Williams

Fields spent his first three NFL seasons with Chicago. Last month, the Bears decided to trade Fields to the Steelers. However, it was planned since Ryan Poles’ squad got a 2025 sixth-round draft pick in exchange. On the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, Sweat confessed how Fields had left with dignity. Speaking highly of the quarterback, the defensive end said, I mean I was only there for a couple of months so I was only able to see he’s a blue-collar guy like he come in locker room head up first guy on the field last got to leave type stuff.

Pointing out Fields’ commitment toward the team, he also maintained his humble nature that gained him immense respect, “Like he’s always working on the locker room it seemed like he was doing everything right…he had the respect of the guys.” Since the Bears traded Fields, they have focused on bringing in Williams.

Right after Fields was sent to the Steelers, Chicago started to create a plan to use their No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to land Williams. Interestingly, back in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Bears traded up to land Fields. The quarterback, too, did honors to the opportunity as, for three seasons, he continued to showcase his talent. However, if the last season is considered, it has been different for both Fields and Williams.

In the second half of 2023, Fields improved in the areas that he needed to. However, Williams’ play deteriorated around the same timeline, especially during college competitions. Some analysts have even pointed out that Fields’ footwork is much better than the USC Trojans’ quarterback. Hence, it leaves fans wondering then why is Chicago pursuing Williams.

One of the many reasons Ryan Poles has moved forward with rookie quarterback this season is the finances. According to the reports, Williams is expected to sign a four-year rookie contract that is estimated to be worth $38.5 million.
