The Colorado Buffaloes are now keeping themselves engaged to find a replacement for Shedeur beforehand now that the quarterback will be off to sailing NFL’s ship this year. But is this excitement to avoid their feelings of what they might face once Shilo and Shedeur leave? No, it is not only about the players, as with his kids departing, Deion Sanders may give up on his coaching role since all his kids will be leaving his nest to fly high.

In that case, will Julian Lewis’ recruitment stop Deion Sanders from surrendering his responsibility? Kevin Borba in his Locked on Buffs podcast gives a clearer picture.

Speculations about Deion Sanders’ future without kids at CU

The next season will be one difficult ride for Deion Sanders. Till now, Coach Prime had got his second home in Boulder since outside his home, the Buffs HC had the privilege of keeping an eye on his children- Shilo, Shedeur and Shelomi. Now that the Sanders brothers will be off to the NFL cutting ties with college football and Shelomi already committed to Alabama A&M, the biggest question that arises is what will Deion Sanders do without them. As pointed out by Borba, “This 2024-25 season end, people are going to be speculating that Deion Sanders is going to leave for the media or just leave to be a dad of his kids in the sense that he would he just wants to watch them play professionally.”

After being charged with ‘playing for clicks’ by Cormani McClain, Sanders’ role has already been under scrutiny. Hence there prevails a chance of Coach Prime shifting to any content role or just being there, seeing his kids excel professionally from a distance. However, there lies another probability.

“I think that’s still the biggest question so if he goes all in and is putting in maximum effort to get Julian Lewis to come to Boulder Colorado and to be a buff I think this kind of proves to Julian and all the recruits out there that coach Prime is bought in on Boulder”, pointed out Borba. Will Lewis act as Deion Sanders’ last ray of hope?

Lewis’ chance of filling the void left by Deion’s kids

While Shedeur will be making a debut in the NFL next year, it is not that there are no quarterbacks to take his place. As mentioned by Borba, there is Walter Taylor and Dustin Wade, however, they do not stand any chance to take up the Buffs’ quarterback sensation’s place. Instead chances reign high for Julian Lewis.

Going by the 247Sports Composite reports, the USC five-star QB holds the No.16 overall rank prospect. Other than this, for the 2025 class, Lewis is the No.2 QB. Andrew Ivins, the director of scouting stated on Lewis, “A de facto point guard on the gridiron that can distribute the football like few others…Has proven to be a crafty mover both in and outside of the pocket and will extend plays like a true escape artist.”

Very well aware of the situation that Buffaloes will find themselves in post-Shedeur’s exit, Lewis will be representing a significant recruitment coup.

Hence, after his kids have departed, Deion Sanders will have a new-found purpose to mold Julian Lewis up as per his discretion. Now the biggest question is: will Lewis take on Shedeur’s position in Buffaloes and become the man who Coach Prime can depend on?
