Detroit seems not to be able to catch its breath now that the NFL Draft is coming off with back-to-back picks. The same is the case for the player, Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr. in particular. Being the only wide receiver in the pool of quarterbacks in the top 10 picks of this year’s draft, Harrison Jr. has finally found his second home and gave his coach a joyful hug.

Making the best use of their No.4 pick, the Arizona Cardinals picked Harrison Jr. This brings an end to the speculated plan that Los Angeles Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh had prepped up to get him in. It’s time for some “Maserati Marv” time in Arizona.

Harrison Jr. is all set to sail in Arizona’s boat

Harrison Jr.’s time with the Buckeyes has finally come to an end after a long stint of three years. Picked up as the fourth overall, he became the highest-ever drafted wide receiver in the known records of the Ohio State program history. The last record was previously held by Ohio State’s route-runner’s 1996, seventh-overall draft pick, Terry Glenn.

For a long now, Arizona GM Monti Ossenfort kept an eye on Harrison Jr. planning to add him as an immediate weapon to the offense led by Kyler Murray. April 26 appeared to be a fortunate day as the Ossenfort finally made through his ultimate plan. Not to forget, that even though the path ahead looks alluring for Harrison Jr., he makes it a point to carry forward with him the times he had back at Buckeyes. Hence, as soon as his name got announced, an emotional Harrison Jr. was seen hugging his ex-coach Ryan Day before sailing off on the Cardinals boat.

Day has left a deep impact on Harrison Jr.

Being under Day’s tutelage, Harrison Jr. has witnessed some of the greatest highs in his career in college football. The Cardinals’ latest pick racked up an impressive 2,613 receiving yards and on top of that snagged 31 touchdowns. At just 21, the wide receiver provided his share of explosive plays and immediately became Day’s apple of the eye after leading the Buckeyes to a 20-12 victory.

After the win last October, the Ohio State Buckeyes HC showered Harrison Jr. with words of praise, “He’s a tremendous talent – and this is what every defensive coordinator’s going to say, ‘The first thing we’re going to do is not let Marvin Harrison beat us.’” Hence, it was Day, who planted the seed of confidence within the young talent. Drawing confidence from his former coach’s confidence in him, right after knowing about his selection at Arizona, the wide receiver proudly declared, “I just had trust in my abilities. I worked so hard to get to this point.”

Now that Marvin Harrison Jr. will look up to Jonathan Gannon, he will be carrying with himself Day’s words of praise. With this, he will be carrying his legacy in becoming the top wide receiver that the Grand Canyon State will go crazy about and be Kyler Murray’s go-to guy on the field.
