It is no other than standout linebacker, who mesmerized San Francisco 49ers fans in the 2010s, NaVorro Bowman. It was Shawne Merriman, former NFL LB, who flashed this information on his social media handle. As per the latest reports, Bowman and Harbaugh are in the final stages of negotiations for him to become the Chargers’ new linebackers coach.

Shawne Merriman backs ‘big’ NaVorro Bowman move

Shawne Merriman expressed his belief that Bowman’s experience makes him a prime fit for the coaching role in the Chargers’ roster. Taking to X, he said, One of the best to do it from the DMV and also would make a great linebackers coach @NBowman53 for the Chargers. Big move if this can happen”

To talk about the standout linebacker’s legacy, his ability to control the game from defensive ends speaks volumes. As Merriman shares huge respect for Bowman, he just does not see him as a former teammate, but rather as a potential asset to the Charger’s coaching staff.

Even though his decision to join the Chargers is still under negotiation, this development would mark Bowman’s first break in a coaching position. With speculations looming in the air, the recruitment is poised to gift the star linebacker, a reunion with former coach, Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh-Bowman potential reunion

It was under Harbaugh, that Bowman achieved significant success within his tenure of seven years with the 49ers. Previously, the duo collaborated in propelling the program to reach the NFC Championship for three consecutive times. However, it was in 2012 that their partnership bore the best result in the 49ers’ Super Bowl run.

Bowman’s individual success is highlighted by numerous accolades including Pro Bowl selections and First-team All-Pro honors.

Besides his on-field prowess, the former linebacker has shown extraordinary mental resilience. During the 2013 NFC Championship Game, he suffered a torn ACL and MCL that led him to miss the entire 2014 season. However, he ensured to make a dominant comeback in 2015 bringing another first-team All-Pro under his belt.

If the deal with NaVorro Bowman comes to fruition, the Chargers will likely be injected with some seasoned defensive insight.
