With the NFL Draft looming, opinions are pointing out McCarthy’s prospects as a first-round pick and once again be under the mentorship of his former Wolverines coach. Adding to the grapevine, former Wolverines’ coach Jim Harbaugh has stepped in with his prediction. However, in the case of the Las Vegas Raiders, the opinions vary from the present Chargers’ coach.

Harbaugh’s bold prophecy for McCarthy

Harbaugh, fresh from leading the Wolverines to the national championship since 1997 alongside McCarthy, has not shied away from placing bold forecasts. Making an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the coach expressed his confidence in McCarthy and claimed, “Don’t be surprised if he goes all the way to No. 1 quarterback off the board.”

Citing the “it-factor” in the quarterback, Harbaugh emphasized his allure, possessing the deadly combination of athleticism, throwing prowess, and remarkable mental makeup. As a result, Harbaugh strongly looks forward to McCarthy’s rise as the top quarterback in the draft. Interestingly, the powerful quarterback, Caleb Williams, was long anticipated to fill the position. Besides the coach, praises for McCarthy have been widespread. Blake Corum, the player’s teammate and a standout running back for the Wolverines, echoed Harbaugh’s sentiments, rooting for McCarthy.

Raiders’ quest for a quarterback

The situation is challenging for the Las Vegas Raiders as the NFL Draft approaches. Holding the 13th pick, the squad has to make a bold move to secure a franchise quarterback. Even though McCarthy became a significant prospect for the Raiders, his drafting is not without its concerns.

Being an undeniable talent, McCarthy’s collegiate career leaves some questions unanswered. His lack of yardage, followed by his physical stature, has questioned his durability at the NFL level. Never passing more than 3,000 yards is something that McCarthy’s resume lacks. As per recent reports, Tom Brady is on his way to owning the minority stakes in the Raiders, and the legend will be considering prospects like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels. In that case, McCarthy cannot compete for the first pick and stand a chance in the second attempt.

With this, the tussle prevails for acquiring McCarthy. For different franchises, the priorities for bringing in McCarthy are different, but with the Chargers getting the chance to pick first, it indicates a reunion of the quarterback with Harbaugh.
