Hiring and firing in the CFB landscape is all set to redefine the upcoming era of college football. Thus far, some of the most illustrious college football coaches have bid farewell to it after the conclusion of the 2023 season. Some of the best head coaches, like Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh, left the teams that they led to the heights of success. With the shift in coaching duties, Alabama and Michigan might end up losing the scores they had maintained for quite a while.

While it’s a concerning turn of events for Saban’s and Harbaugh’s previous organizations, it’s a pivotal point for others, especially the ones who were awaiting one final thrust to grab the leading position on the conference table. Now, with the possibility of the table leaders weakening, these programs are expected to be the next big names in the realm of college football.

Steve Sarkisian about to take over CFB?

After much consideration, and apprehension of other teams securing Sarkisian given the rapid changes in coaching staff at several NFL and college football giants, Texas lavished their head coach with a $10.3 million contract, with $100,000 being added each year till 2030. Securing Sarkisian might be the ultimate masterstroke that AD Chris Del Conte has made.

During his term at Texas, Sarkisian has given winning records for the last two seasons. Even though it started with a 5-7 in 2021, Sarkisian was quick to make up for it with an 8-5 in 2022. The real form of Steve Sarkisian kicked off right after that, with Texas making it till 12 wins besides 2 losses, a 13-year high. It was in 2009, under Mack Brown’s reins, that Texas went 13-1. Now that Sarkisian has command over the roster and familiarity with the Texas team, his next stop is a National Championship.

“I came here to win a championship,” Sarkisian stated earlier this month during a press conference. “And then if I can get one, I want to get two. I’m borderline obsessed with it at this point.”  The same obsession that Saban and Harbaugh flaunted when they took over Alabama and Michigan, the same force that led them to the National Championships. Might as well work for Sarkisian, if the other sleeping competitors don’t give him a tough time.

Dabo Swinney: A threat to Steve Sarkisian?

Clemson University is another giant that has its eyes set on the National Championship for quite a few years. Speaking financially, Swinney is paid a bit more than Steve Sarkisian, $1.2 million, to be precise.

Swinney’s $11.5 million contract makes him the highest-ranked coach in college football, while Sarkisian ranks 3rd. That, paired with Swinney’s efforts to make Clemson the top ACC seed in 2024, is enough to turn the tides in their favor. “They just might be the most title-ready member at the moment,” claimed Yardbreaker, in his Way-Too-Early prediction for the 2024 season.
