It seems that Michigan Wolverines still have to cover a long way to take charge over the Ohio State Buckeyes this season. Going by the recent developments, the Buckeyes have opened up their hands and unloaded their budget to load their arsenal of coaches and players, while the Wolverines are struggling to keep up.

Ryan Day’s program has been on an over-spending haul to finally beat Michigan this year. On the other hand, things have not looked good for Sherrone Moore ever since he replaced Jim Harbaugh. The new Wolverines HC is still on his quest to find ways to assemble a competent coaching staff but is being hit by issues left, right, and center.

Ohio State’s college football team for the 2024 season is set to go. But it cost Day’s program heavily as they had to come up with an eye-popping budget of $30 million.  However, the amount did not go completely into shaping the players’ roster. Instead, it includes the players, the assistant coaches along with the head coach. According to the reports, the Buckeyes spent $13 million in NIL on OSU’s roster. Besides, within the remaining amount, $11.425 million has been spent on the assistant coaching staff and the rest $10 million on its head coach.

Day as the Buckeyes HC is slated to make at least $10.2 million (plus bonuses) in the upcoming year. On the other hand, Chip Kelly has left his job as the UCLA HC to serve as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator. He will be making $2 million this year. While the coaching situation in the Buckeyes looks prim and proper, that is not the case for Moore’s Wolverines.

Tough times ahead for Moore’s Wolverines

A former star quarterback of the Wolverines, Denard Robinson later joined Michigan football as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel. All seemed good till yesterday since after that the AD was arrested at 3:05 a.m. for crashing his car in Ann Harbor. The crash took place about 1.5 miles south of the football headquarters. As per reports, he is expected to be charged for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). As the confirmation of the news arrived, Moore’s program suspended Robinson indefinitely.

This was not the first time that the Wolverines experienced such a setback as far as their coaching staff was concerned. In March, it was Greg Scruggs who exposed Moore and the program to a tough match. Scruggs was hired as Michigan’s defensive line coach on March 6. Within 10 days of his recruitment, the former NFL defensive lineman was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence of a substance.

Hence, Moore’s search for a competent coaching staff for the Michigan Wolverines is far from getting over. Amidst these setbacks, the football program will face yet another penalty from the NCAA due to violations that took place during COVID-19 when non-coaching staff members took part in impermissible roles under the former HC.
