Woo-hoo! Shedeur Sanders has again climbed the charts, thanks to Walter Football and its latest mock draft that projected the Buffs QB to grab the top spot. This comes with another bonus for Coach Prime’s son: a comparison with the great Joe Burrow.

While Sanders’ dream of becoming a Tom Brady-Michael Vick hybrid got dismissed by Matt McChesney, getting the side-by-side treatment with the Cincinnati Bengals QB is something he can look up to. Interestingly, this was not the first time Sanders and Burrow would share the same list.

On July 13, DNVR podcast’s co-host, Jake Schwanitz, dropped his take on the possibility of the Sanders vs. Burrow angle. Why wouldn’t he? The Buffs QB has regained his power now that he has dethroned Carson Beck and pushed his stocks sky-high. Sanders ticks off certain checkboxes. Jake said, “He reminds me of Joe Burrow and he can have a senior year explosion like Joe Burrow had last year.” As a senior, Burrow had a breakout season; he threw 471 yards and four touchdowns against the University of Texas.

Schwanitz is very clear about on what grounds his comparison stands, “We are talking about Heisman Trophy contention this year, No. 1 overall pick contention, these are all things Joe Burrow did, these are all things that are right in front of Shedeur Sanders.”

Burrow, who won the Heisman Trophy and a national championship with the LSU Tigers, carries a yard portfolio of 14,000 paired with 100 touchdowns. Even though Sanders is far from reaching the numbers, there are certain criteria that the Buffs QB meets that toss him in the comparison arena with Burrow. Accuracy, toughness, underrated mobility, clutch factor, confidence, and swagger — all ticked! But it does not look like Sanders will be quite happy with this comparison.

McChesney’s opinion on Sanders’ daring comparison to NFL legends

In June, the Buffs QB admitted he sees himself as the perfect combination of the two former NFL legends. In an interview with Complex Sports, Sanders confessed, “I’m a mixture. I’m able to stay in the pocket and want to deliver the ball each and every play like Brady but be able to extend plays and if it’s not there, take it like Vick.” But poor Sanders! McChesney gave his belief the ol’ brush-off on the DNVR Buffs podcast. The Colorado alum ripped apart Sanders, stamping his self-analysis as “a ridiculous comparison.” The reason? McChesney believes Sanders will be eligible to compare himself to Brady only after he onboards the NFL ship.

And what about Michael Vick? It was hard for him to pick common traits between the two since McChesney believes it’s no easy task to find someone with “anything in common with Michael Vick. Michael Vick is a goddamn freak.”

Meanwhile, Sanders has something to be proud of. Even though he has yet to catch up with Burrow regarding the numbers, he found himself a spot sharing the same list with the Bengals QB. On June 4, 247 Sports posted a list with the caption: “Which recent college football transfers had the greatest impact at their new school?” While Burrow secured the top spot, Sanders landed in the 10th rank. With this, Schwanitz’s Joe Burrow comp about Sanders is on the verge of coming true.
