CU Athletics partnered with the Buffs4Life NIL collective through which the student-athletes who particularly play football are going to benefit. The Buffaloes program has as many as 350 athletes across all 11 sports programs. Amidst the rapidly changing world of NIL, the new 5430 Alliance will act as a shield by attracting contributions through membership.

These memberships will cover any budget and will also explore the tax-deductible charitable option. The Buffs4Life NIL initiative was started at CU in October 2022 and exceptionally provided up to a sum of $4.3 million through various NIL opportunities to more than 200 student-athletes. This has been only possible due to Deion Sanders who sees NIL from a different light.

Despite the allure of the NIL deals, Deion Sanders ensured to shed light on the realities of this new era. Right from the beginning of his mentorship tenure with the Buffaloes, Coach Prime had made it clear that NIL is not a guaranteed cash cow for student-athletes. The Colorado HC claimed, “We’re not an ATM. That’s not going to happen here. If you come to Colorado to play football for me and the Colorado Buffaloes, it’s because you really want to play football and receive a wonderful education and all the business stuff will be handled on the back end if that’s the case.”
