Houston Texans safeties coach Stephen Adegoke has made a headline-grabbing decision leaving Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines in a bind. In an attempt to follow Deion Sanders’ attempt to bring in NFL talent into Buffs, Moore had offered Adegoke, the position of secondary coach.

There had been a lot of speculation about his next move but it looks like Adegoke has opted to remain with the AFC South champions and chose to pivot and return to the Texans. With back-to-back coaches leaving the Wolverines after Jim Harbaugh’s exit, Moore’s failure to bring in Adegoke came as yet another setback for Michigan.

Adegoke declines the Wolverines’ offer

Agegoke’s decision to stay committed to the Texans has been confirmed in the tweet by NFL analyst, Aaron Wilson. It was last year that Adegoke joined the Texans bringing in a valuable experience from his defensive quality control stint with the San Francisco 49ers. In the meanwhile, it has been reported that he accepted the defensive backs position in the Wolverines as offered by new head coach Moore. However, as per the latest updates, he accepted the job without finalizing a contract.

Having originally replaced Joe Danna as safeties coach, Adegoke showcased his prowess in bolstering the defensive backfield of the Texans. Safeties including Jalen Pitre and Jimmie Ward have been exposed to his mentorship. Applying the tactics retained from Adegoke, the safeties duo made an impressive run to the AFC South division title followed by a playoff victory.

His coaching experience has been diverse at the collegiate level spreading across Florida, Mississippi Sta,te and Michigan. Beyond coaching, he has experience of playing as a defensive back which resulted in Moore getting allured to acquire him as a valuable asset.

Moore’s failed attempt to apply Sanders’ blueprint

Even though prospects seemed to be high for the safeties coach, who served at Michigan as a defensive analyst in 2021, under Jim Harbaugh, to join hands with Moore, the plan turned out to be futile. Being new to this position, there is no better person for Moore to follow, other than the Buffaloes coaching maestro Deion Sanders.

As per the Buffaloes’ defensive lineup requirement, Coach Prime has set his sights on inculcating NFL experience into the Colorado roster. In an attempt to materialize his goal, he went ahead with his plan and acquired the commitment of Cincinnati Bengals’ safety coach Robert Livingston as their new defensive coach.

Similarly, Moore found confidence in Adegoke owing to his rich history with the Texans and before that with the 49ers. The Wolverines were close to hiring him in a situation when coach transfers have become a day-to-day affair in Michigan. To his surprise, on Thursday, February 15, Moore got a confirmation of Adegoke’s return to Houston.

The decision to stay with the Texans will help Adegoke to build upon the successes of the previous season. His decision to deny an attractive offer from the Wolverines ensures that Texans fans are geared up for the upcoming season while he keeps himself dedicated to professional ranks.
