“It don’t really take up much of your life,” was all Shilo Sanders had to say to the mud-slingers. Deion Sanders and Co’s nontraditional recruiting ways were foul for the old-school experts. The criticism extending to Shilo Sanders, however, while he was just aiding his father in the transfer portal hassles was something the Sanders family hardly expected.

When the spring transfer portal sprung open on Tuesday, Shilo Sanders was quick to post a story in collaboration with his brother Shedeur to lure in more transfers. All they wanted was another blockbuster number of transfers like their previous one.

Defense players DM me,” captioned the Buffs safety in his Instagram story along with, “Offense players DM Shedeur.” The same old-school transfers took it as a cue to thrash the Sanders brothers. Their trick went viral would, increasing their reach fourfold.

“When I made the post, I was just in the locker room. I just typed it and then asked him, ‘Hey, make sure you checking your DMs, bro. It’s about to get wild’. So we need some guys. We’re good, but I just want to be the best for sure,” Shilo said, revealing the process leading to the recruitment stunt. The result? “I sent coach so many players. I’m not going to lie. It had to be like over 50 guys,” Shilo Sanders confessed in his press conference.

Even though spontaneous, Shilo Sanders’ story did the job of reaching out to the Nation (with a negative underscore for some, but that’s a topic of discussion). Deion SandersPrime strategy of leveraging the peer popularity and visibility of his sons into his biggest assets for the spring transfer portal worked wonders. As for the critics, Deion Sanders Jr. was enough for them.

The only problem that Sanders Jr. had with SI was its hypocrisy. It was in December 2023 that Sports Illustrated named Deion Sanders the SI Sports Person: 2023.

The top post on the SI Instagram page is Deion Sanders as the SI Sports Person of the Year with a huge grin, where Deion Sanders Jr., Shilo, Shedeur, and other Sanders family members and Buffs staff make up the background. So, when their now-deleted post headlined “Deion Sanders’ kids are recruiting transfers via DM while the Colorado coach avoids home visits,” it pushed all the wrong buttons of Deion Sanders Jr.
