Steve Sarkisian has hit the jackpot. Not only in terms of contract but also with the amenities Texas Longhorns showered him with. Game tickets? Check. Two cars? Check. Country Club membership? Check. A private jet? Also, check. All of this, paired with a $10 million plus contract, with $100,000 being added annually until 2030. Texas fans’ jaws were hitting the floor after Texas’s announcement on Saturday. This not only vaulted Sarkisian into the top-5 highest paid coaches in college football but also safeguarded him as the head coach of the Longhorns amidst the heightening demand for him in the NCAA and the NFL landscape.

Steve Sarkisian was the name that appeared in almost every candidate list for the vacant head coaching and other staff positions in leading NFL franchises. This might be one of the primary reasons for Texas incrementing Sarkisian’s salary from $5.8 million to $10.3 million for 2024. Safe to say, Texas has secured their head coach. However, concerns regarding their roster, players entering the transfer portal to be more specific, persist.

Adam Gorney, the national recruiting director for Rivals, was blunt in calling out Sarkisian’s hypocrisy for condemning the players who enter the transfer portal after considering the financial aspect, especially when he has bagged a hefty contract of $70 million. “What do the players get? B*tched at for NIL ‘changing college football’?” was the direct claim of Gorney on Sarkisian.

It was regarding the ongoing lawsuit challenging the NCAA’s rules about NIL and recruiting that Sarkisian opined his view on NIL influencing student-athletes’ decisions. “Quite frankly, any school you choose for not the right reasons, it never works out, and then you look up a year or two from now and they’re the same guys that are in the transfer portal,” Sarkisian commented on Wednesday. Gorney makes a point, forcing people to reconsider Sarkisian’s views of ‘keeping the recruiting culture sacred’ after the details of his contract with Texas were revealed.

Steve Sarkisian’s contract with Texas ranks him

Per 247 Sports’, the Texas head coach ranks 3rd among 10 of the highest-paid coaches in the college football landscape, with his $10.3 million year (2024) salary. Georgia Bulldogs’s Kirby Smart overtook Steve Sarkisian in terms of salary with his $10.7 million per year. Smart would also get a yearly increment per his contract. And the source of envy for all other college football coaches is Clemson University’s Dabo Swinney with his $11.5 million per annum salary, but given his two National Championship wins among 4 trips to CFP, it seems only fair.
