The USC Trojans quarterback, Caleb Williams, has been making waves off the field with his unique fashion sense. Now that it’s clear he’s the top pick and headed to the Chicago Bears, it’s time to delve into his personal style. On The Coach JB Show with Big Smitty, Michigan Wolverines alumni Jason Whitlock sparked controversy by labeling Williams’ fashion choices “too feminine.”

The former offensive lineman-turned-analyst, Whitlock, is convinced that the quarterback’s style choices do not go with the locker room conventions. However, not many know the special reason behind Williams’ style.

In March, the world of the NFL got ripped up into two groups, one in support of the USC quarterback and the other against him. As Williams appeared in the March Madness game, flaunting his pink nails and a pink-colored phone cover became a huge deal for many. The attacks persist, as Whitlock has now taken up this topic. On the show, he came up with a scathing commentary, “I don’t know what to make of Caleb Williams…I just don’t think this works in a football locker room and I know how progressive and woke things have become but I just don’t see him as a leader in a football locker room it’s just too feminine.”

Besides Whitlock, Jack McGuire, a Barstool employee, labeled Williams’ appearance at the USC women’s basketball game “crazy”. But the quarterback took a stand for himself and responded in a tweet saying, “Your pfp is crazy ngl.” A strong army rallied for Williams.

Williams found an army of supporters

The first to stand up for Williams was former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III. He made a plea in a tweet, saying, “Let Caleb Williams be Caleb Williams. Ain’t nothing wrong with him wearing pink fingernail polish and having a pink phone case. Quite frankly, if he goes to Chicago then Bears fans should be rocking whatever he is. Stop the hate and accept him for who he is.” Shannon Sharpe also voiced his support, questioning the right of others to dictate what’s acceptable.

However, the story behind Williams’ nail painting is not widely known. It’s been a form of personal expression for him for years. During the 2022-2023 college football season, he led USC to a significant victory over Notre Dame. As he stepped onto the field, his painted nails carried a powerful message, “F—NDXX.”

Even though Caleb Williams has been shot in a negative light by some, he did not allow it to dampen his spirit in any way. All set to join the Chicago Bears, it is now time for the USC Trojans quarterback star to paint his nails white and orange.
