JJ McCarthy didn’t respond to the allegations against his all-time high draft stocks. He didn’t need to. The preference of the NFL teams was enough to douse down all the critics claiming McCarthy to be overhyped. McCarthy didn’t leave any stone unturned when it came to impressing the scouting heads and head coaches at the NFL Combine and Michigan Pro Day, scrimmaging for some brow-raising-ly impressive records.

Since the conclusion of his Pro Day, JJ McCarthy has become the hottest trade in the 2024 trade market, one that several teams are chasing. Yet, until now, the top projected QBs list looked something like: Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy. After Friday, the narrative changed to Caleb Williams, JJ McCarthy, and Drake Maye, as NFL Draft Scout reported.

“A high-ranking evaluator I spoke to this week said McCarthy’s winning resume, upside as a mobile QB, and impeccable poise under pressure all graded out higher for them than Maye,” reported the NFL Draft Scout.

However, the NFL world saw the JJ McCarthy v. Drake Maye war long coming. It was just 3 days ago that Savage Sports predicted that “national media is gonna start projecting JJ McCarthy over Drake Maye at 3.” Even Mel Kiper agreed with it. What they did not predict, however, was McCarthy climbing the charts at such a pace that his prediction would turn true within mere days.

The teams chasing JJ McCarthy are deploying the best of their strategies to land McCarthy. From securing private workout sessions like the Broncos and the Giants to arranging dinners and facility visits to lure McCarthy away, teams are trying out every trick in the book. They are even vying to strike a pact to get a trade-up, just to secure the QB. Something that now the Vikings can boast about if they make the decision.

The Vikings most potent to get a trade-up

With less than a month away from unleashing the 2024 NFL draft, the picture of teams wanting a potential trade-up is getting less and less hazy. It is no secret that the Vikings, along with the Broncos and the Giants are hot on their heels for securing JJ McCarthy. While the latter two landed a personal workout session with the QB, the Vikings are planning for something more ultimate than that, landing a trade-up in the 2024 Draft.
