Aaron Rodgers, David Bakhtiari Reiterate ‘Genuine’ Interest to Reunite with Clay Matthews at Green Bay

Not too long ago, Aaron Rodgers-led Green Bay Packers were dreaming of the Super Bowl LV title earlier this year. The Matt LaFleur-coached franchise made their way to the NFC Championship Game for the second year running after convincingly beating Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Playoffs.
However, the Packers were humbled by a resurgent Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bruce Arians’ boys registered a narrow 31-26 win over Green Bay, that too at Lambeau Field. They eventually went on to lift the Super Bowl title, with Brady adding ring #7 to his collection.
In stark contrast, Rodgers was looking to move on and add to his maiden Super Bowl win. He thought this was the ideal year for him to hunt for a new challenge.

But after all that went down between A-Rod and the Packers in the summer, the league’s reigning MVP is not holding back in order to assemble a Super Bowl-worthy roster to back him.

Earlier this week, Green Bay Packers stars Aaron Rodgers and David Bakhtiari along with newly-returned teammate Randall Cobb put up stories featuring free agent Clay Matthews. The latter was part of the Packers squad that won the Super Bowl XLV trophy while playing with Rodgers and Co.

He last played in the NFL two years ago, for Los Angeles Rams. He was released in the build-up to the 2020 NFL season. As of today, Matthews is a free agent and could very well be on his way back to Lambeau Field.

But some claimed that Rodgers and his teammates were just calling for him to return as a joke, or more specifically as a precursor to a one-day retirement contract. However, a report in ProFootballTalk claims that those rumours couldn’t be farther from the truth.
