Alex Smith Fairytale Continues; Will he Lead Washington Football Team to the NFC East Crown?

After suffering his career-defining injury in November 2018, not many expected former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith to return to the world of football. But a little over two years since that fateful day, Smith finds himself on the verge of completing one of the greatest comebacks in football history.

The 36-year old is back in the starting line-up following last week’s events surrounding young QB Dwayne Haskins. Head coach Ron Rivera has given Smith the opportunity to etch his name in NFL history books by naming him the starter on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

But if the veteran quarterback lives up to the occasion remains to be seen.

It’s all up for grabs in the NFC East as we approach Week 17 of the regular season. The likes of Dallas Cowboys, Washington Football Team and New York Giants, all have a shot at making the playoffs in 2021. But Washington has a special angle to their road to post-season involving former number one NFL pick, Alex Smith.

Smith made his first NFL appearance since November 2018 in last year’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Smith has thrown for 1,400+ yards with 4 passing TDs against 6 interceptions this season. But all that won’t matter if he manages to seal a spot in the playoffs by beating the Eagles on Sunday.

The exit of Dwayne Haskins could serve as a blessing in disguise for Washington. With Jalen Hurts and the Eagles low in confidence, Ron Rivera’s boys will back themselves to end the season on a high.
