Cam Newton Has a Message for Fans After Being Cut by the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots pulled off the biggest shocker on the final day of roster cut by letting go of quarterback Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP was given the boot days after being touted to be a strong contender for the Patriots’ QB1 role.
Franchise head coach and GM Bill Belichick had maintained through the majority of the offseason that Cam Newton was set to be the starter for the Patriots come Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season.
Newton’s main competitor through training camp and the preseason was rookie QB Mac Jones. The Alabama product was drafted by the franchise 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

While many assumed that Jones would remain an understudy to Newton during his rookie season. The Patriots though shocked the world by letting go of the veteran and effectively making Mac Jones the Patriots’ QB1.

Cam Newton was under pressure from Mac Jones thanks to the rookie’s display through the course of the preseason. But no one expected the Patriots to cut Newton after just signing him on to a year-long contract extension.

Newton though took to social media to tell his fans not to feel sorry for him. He also appreciated the support he’s been receiving online since being cut for the Patriots’ final roster.

“I really appreciate all the love and support during this time but I must say… Please don’t feel sorry for me!!” Newton wrote with the hashtag #I’mGood.

Newton might not be on the market for long though. Many still feel that the QB has what it takes to lead an NFL offense. Plenty of teams might be willing to take the plunge. But Newton will likely hold out till he gets an assured starting role.
