Cam Newton to the Dallas Cowboys? Here’s What Head Coach Mike McCarthy Has to Say

The Dallas Cowboys have big expectations from the 2021 NFL season. With franchise QB1 Dak Prescott returning from a leg injury which saw him sit out for nearly 9 months, the Cowboys offense will once again have it’s leader in the mix.
Apart from Prescott, the side has Copper Rush as their side’s backup QB. But that hasn’t stopped the media from speculating a move for Cam Newton.
The 2015 NFL MVP was recently cut by the New England Patriots from their 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season. This came as a shocker to all given that the QB had just a year-long contract extension with the franchise.

Now a free agent, Cam Newton can still be a valuable addition to an NFL franchise. Despite his stock falling after a topsy-turvy season with the Patriots, his experience as a starting QB helps him stand out from the competition.
If the Cowboys needed to find a replacement for Prescott midway through the season for any reason, most NFL fans would agree that having Newton as backup would be the more desirable choice.
But what do the Dallas Cowboys think of the idea? Might a move for Cam Newton be on the cards?
Dallas Cowboys unlikely to move for Cam Newton
The Dallas Cowboys have been heavily linked with a move for Cam Newton ever since being cut by the Patriots. And head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about the same during a recent press conference.

“I think he has a ton of football left. We’re very excited about the group we have,” McCarthy said via USA Today.
Last season, the Cowboys had experience in their locker room despite the absence of Prescott. With former Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton taking over the team still had a NFL veteran leading the offense.

But with Dalton no longer around, the Cowboys lack the depth they had last year. But that can of course be solved by brining in Newton to play backup.
