There have been several players who haven’t been taken in by anyone from the league despite their talent and Cam Newton remains to be one of them. Newton has been an exceptional talent for the Carolina Panthers. However, after his injuries stacked up, the quarterback hasn’t been picked up by anyone. He has been in free agency for quite a while, without any actual offers from the NFL. Furthermore, while he has gotten offers from the XFL, his recent activity on Twitter seems like he only wants to play in the NFL.

He took to Twitter to speak about how he might be willing to change his role in the NFL for a contract. Furthermore, his interest in playing a backup role caught the eye of another ex-Pro Bowler QB who spoke about who he’d be willing to play backup for. This also spiked interest in his return among the fans.

The influence of Cam Newton on another former QB of the league

As Newton spoke about coming in as a backup QB, it seems to have inspired Robert Griffin III. RG3 retweeted Newton’s Twitter post and declared his intentions on becoming a backup for other quarterbacks. While Newton mentioned a handful of players that did not include Mahomes, RG3 reiterated that he would be ready to be a backup for any player.

Furthermore, RG3 also called out Colin Kaepernick and asked him to share his manifesto of quarterbacks he would be ready to back up. Furthermore, Griffin made his intentions clear and even mentioned that he is ready to play as a backup twice for Mahomes.
