Acclaimed quarterback Baker Mayfield will surely want to forget the last-moment loss at NFL 2022-23 Week 1 as soon as possible. Although, his ex-teammate Myles Garrett does not seem to stop talking about it. Baker Mayfield allegedly pledged to beat the Cleveland Browns on game day, but things turned out to be quite the opposite.

Cleveland Browns defeated Carolina Panthers 26-24 in a tense match-up at the Bank of America Stadium. The Browns took an early lead in the first two quarters. When it looked all poised to be a one-sided match, the Panthers charged back. With continuous efforts, they led the Browns by 24-23 with 13 seconds to go. However, rookie Cade York scored a brilliant 58-yard Field Goal to rally the Browns through.

Baker Mayfield’s comment of “f*ck them up” towards the Browns, at first glance, can be seen as overwhelmingly disrespectful to his previous club. Although according to some reports, it was primarily intended towards the split between Baker and the Browns who signed in Deshaun Watson. Mayfield might have gotten enraged as a result, and his ‘remarks’ could be judged in a less severe light.

Myles Garrett admits the remark of Baker Mayfield set The Browns free

Carolina Panthers promoted the opening game against Mayfield’s previous team, the Cleveland Browns, as a match in which the star quarterback would finally be unleashed. T-shirts with “Off The Leash” written on them were used in the campaigning too. Following up on that, The Browns DE Garrett sarcastically told that the Browns indeed were actually unleashed in the match that helped them win.

“I mean, the tone was set with the attitude of some of the guys on the other side,” Garrett said. “We were just ready to go out there and finally put things to bed.”

Ardent Browns fans appear to have turned the loss into an obscene revenge game against Baker after the match. On Twitter, some Browns fans heavily trolled Baker after the matchup.

When Baker is being chastised for making that “claim,” there is also talk of moving on. According to a recent SI report, Baker looked solid in his first month with the new team, and the loss is not his fault.

Despite all these, Baker’s former teammate Myles Garrett still ‘respects him.’ As Week 2 approaches, perhaps NFL fans will move past this old rivalry with many new excitements lined up on the field for them.
