In 2017, NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared his opinions about former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. In 2016, the former Niners QB was a figure of immense scrutiny and debate among fans for publicly displaying his beliefs while kneeling before the game. Jones sent a clear message to all his players and supporters that such expressions would not be tolerated in Dallas.
While talking about the kneeling situation during the pre-game national anthem, Jones stated, “If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period. Period. We’re going to respect the flag. We cannot in the NFL, in any way, give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag. We cannot do that.” The Cowboys’ GM was trying to send a clear and concise message so that the players and the organization remain on the same page.
