After losing key players at offensive positions, the Dallas Cowboys fans were scared for the season, but the team has blown away all expectations. They currently hold the third-highest points per game in the NFL. Yet Jerry Jones, the eccentric owner and GM of the team has been going hard to add talent at the receiving position. For the past month, Jones has been openly flirting with Odell Beckham Jr. for a place in the Cowboys. But now it seems that they have another plan.

After getting their tenth win of the season, the Cowboys announced another addition to the team. While many expected the release to have the name of OBJ, the management chose to sign a cheaper alternative to the star WR. On Monday, the Cowboys signed former Indianapolis Colts receiver, T Y Hilton, to a 1-year deal. The 33-year-old wideout only started 9 games last season and had been testing free agency. Now the player will be helping CeeDee Lamb who has been the one to take the major load this season.

Signing Hilton was also a pocket-friendly move when compared to the former Super Bowl Winner. Hilton’s contract is a major incentive-based deal. The cowboys have guaranteed $600,000 over the final 4 weeks of the NFL. However, he has the opportunity to earn substantially more with his performances.

If the team is successful in the playoffs, it will help Hilton up to $1.8 million at the tail end of the league. However, it is still presumably way less than what Jerry Jones would have had to pay for OBJ.

Is Odell Beckham Jr.’s interest dwindling?

Following the star WR’s move to Los Angeles Rams last season, it appeared that he had found a home for himself. Nonetheless, after winning the Super Bowl together, the parties could not come to a new agreement. The 30-year-old has not stepped on the field yet after an ACL injury in the SB. However, he still accrued a lot of interest from other teams.

But since the proper return date for the player is still unclear, the Cowboys have signed a player who could immediately contribute to the playoff run this season. Whether this would end the month-long trade talks is yet to be seen, even though the move now seems unlikely, according to some reports, Jones still remains in the running.
