Britt Reid has been handed a three-year prison sentence for one felony count of driving while intoxicated with serious bodily injury. The two vehicles that Reid hit were stationary near Interstate 435, one due to a malfunction in the car and the second for helping the first. The injured girl, Ariel Young, was in the second car during the collision. The police recorded the alcohol level in Reid’s body at 0.113% whereas the legal limit stands at 0.080%.

The family of the girl opposed Reid’s probation plea saying that no amount of prison sentence will be enough for the pain and suffering Reid has caused them and their child. Ariel has a balance problem and has to wear eyeglasses to correct her vision due to the brain injury caused by the accident. Reid apologized to the girl and her family saying that he understands where they are coming from.
