Julian Edelman was the mainstay in Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots for several seasons. He won three rings with the team. And he made a name for himself as a Patriots legend. But a new documentary has revealed that it could all have been different.

Edelman opened up about his initial struggle to break into the team. And how he was dead close to leaving the Foxborough outfit in his initial years in the NFL.

Julian Edelman wanted to leave

Julian Edelman played in the NFL for 12 seasons, all of them with the Patriots. But there was a time when he wanted to leave the franchise. He opened up about the issue in a new documentary, ‘Julian Edelman: A Football Life.’ The Patriots signed Danny Amendola before the 2013 season. And that irked Edelman, who thought he would never get a big chance with the Patriots. He was hurt.

He then opened up about his feelings at the time. Edelman, who later won three Super Bowls with the Patriots, said he was considering leaving the franchise at that point. And he got an offer too

“As a kid, as a young guy, experiencing that for the first time, I was like, ‘f*ck Belichick. F*ck the Patriots. I hate everyone here. How are you going to do this to me?’ I took a visit to the New York Giants, and they offered me a contract,” he said.

Edelman ended up staying and aren’t the fans glad that he did? He became a mainstay in the team and a legend of the game. But he stayed due to Tom Brady. He didn’t want to go and earn the trust of another QB all over again.

Edelman won three Super Bowl titles with the Foxborough outfit. He was the MVP in the 2019 Super Bowl. The legendary WR made his way to the Patriots All-2010s Team and the team’s All-dynasty team. But it almost didn’t happen as he was about to leave before the 2013 season.
