Former NFL Executive Picks Trey Lance Over Justin Fields as Better QB Prospect

Trey Lance and Justin Fields are two of the most hotly debated quarterbacks heading into the draft. Both quarterbacks are being projected in the Top-10 this year. However, their placement in the draft rankings varies from analyst to analyst.
There is no consensus about which is the better prospect. But one former executive has given his take on the two emerging rookies.
In the video below, Former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum was asked to choose between Trey Lance and Justin Fields. What came as a surprise to many, he chose Lance over Fields, noting that there is something interesting about Lance.

He said that Fields is a great prospect, but Lance has certain qualities that put him above the Alabama State player. Tannenbaum believes that Lance would be one of the most coveted quarterbacks if he played in a bigger, more reputed college team.

“It’s Trey Lance. I have nothing against Justin Fields, but there is something so intriguing about Trey Lance. He had one interception in college, in the championship game a year ago.
“He ran for 166 yards. If he had played in a power-five school, we’d be having a lot more conversations about Trey Lance.”
Trey Lance or Justin Fields- Who is the better prospect?
Coming from Tannenbaum, this is an interesting take. For the longest time, Justin Fields was considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft. Many analysts believed he would be a Top-3 prospect in this year’s draft.
However, there are some concerns about how he would adjust to the NFL. Despite this, Fields’ exploits with the Buckeyes last season have made him a wanted man in this year’s draft.

Trey Lance, on the other hand, is an enticing prospect in his own right. Analysts believe that Lance has great star potential, but didn’t have the right tools with him at North Dakota State.

If given the right system, with a good coach and solid players around him, Lance could be an excellent future pick. But much like several other prospects in the past, Lance is not a sure thing going into the draft.
Who is the better quarterback prospect – Trey Lance or Justin Fields? Both players have immense potential. However, their selection in the draft is still up in the air.
