The San Francisco 49ers finally gave the moment to Trey Lance as the QB1 over Jimmy Garoppolo. It was a big moment; The franchise was moving on from someone who took them to a Super Bowl. However, all that could go bad did for the 49ers in their season-opening game against the Bears. The dismal performance led to Ex-Niners OC Mike Martz lashing out rough scrutiny over the QB.

Mike Martz appeared in The 33rd Team podcast and interacted about the Bears-49ers game. The former coach did not mince words when he put on some verbal bashes over Trey Lance. His feelings towards the second-year player are pretty straightforward. Martz does not and has never been an admirer of Lance.

Trey Lance falls flat

The Ex-49ers OC mentioned, “Based on what I saw today he missed two guys completely by themselves. I know it was in the rain but quarterbacks do that, you make those throws. I know this, he can only go up, he can only get better, because you can’t get any worse that what he did [Sunday]. I’ve never liked him, I still don’t like him, I’d like to know what he does so well.”

“Because he’s not a great passer, doesn’t have great skills, takes him a long time to set himself and throw the football, misses easy throws and he’s not a particularly good runner. Other than that he’s a hell of a player,” He added.

Mike Martz did not hold back his feelings over QB Justin Fields, mentioning that he is just astounded at the Bears. They took Fields and spent a lot of cash to get the QB, and he is just under extraordinary. It is the only phrase that could describe him.

New 49ers QB1 failed to assert dominance in the season opener

The rainy Week-1 Game at Soldier Field saw the San Francisco 49ers delivering a disappointing start. San Francisco’s offensive never really got going, and their defense battled with penalties in the second half. Trey Lance completed 13-of-28 passes for 164 yards and an interception on Sunday. Safe to say, it wasn’t the start that the QB thought to have.

The Chicago Bears paddled their way to the victory at their drenched home field. However, the game was far from productive. The 49ers took a 7-0 lead after a slow first half with no points and limited offensive activity. But then Justin Fields discovered his rhythm, and the Bears tallied 19 straight points to secure the win, 19-10.
