Cam Newton has been in headlines all throughout the offseason. There was a massive public outcry when he was signed by coach Bill Belichick post-Tom Brady’s exit. The 2015 NFL MVP award winner is reportedly now the ‘in-house’ starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. There were contrasting opinions when Newton arrived in Boston. Critics and fans alike claimed that Newton is way past his prime and will not fit into Belichick’s tight offense.
However, it now appears that Cam has proven his doubters wrong. After impressing during preseason training, Newton is now the most likely to start for the Patriots when they take the field against Miami Dolphins in Week one.

Bill Belichick more than ‘committed’ with Cam Newton as his starting quarterback
On the latest segment of Speak For Yourself, hosts Emmanuel Acho and Marcellus Wiley were joined by LaVar Arrington. This particular group of former NFL stars talked about Bill Belichick’s glistening reviews of new starting quarterback, Cam Newton. Here’s what Wiley had to say on the subject.
“Fully committed to Cam Newton, absolutely. Bill Belichick’s ‘toes are being curled’ by Cam Newton just coming into camp…not only is Cam the starting quarterback but also one of the offensive team captains and he’s done it the right way, the way you always have to do it – by grinding, putting work in and having tremendous energy,” Wiley said on the show.

Meanwhile, former Washington Redskins (Now, Washington Football Team) player LaVar Arrington echoed the same sentiments.
“I gotta give you guys credit and I gotta give Bill Belichick credit for this. He understood the presence and the impact of Cam Newton. Look at him in this film right there. The amount of confidence that he has going through his exercises, his warmups…The day he (Bill Belichick) brought Cam in, he had the biggest, most influential personality that could possibly come in on the team,” Arrington said on the show.

Without a doubt, Cam is a superior and proven performer ahead of Jarett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. The only doubt that remains is his health. If Newton manages to stay fit throughout the 2020 NFL season and strings together some consistent displays, he might just earn a long-term contract with the Patriots. Coach Belichick’s first test of the season awaits him on September 13, 2020, in the form of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Miami Dolphins.
