Baker Mayfield went from the number one draft pick to a backup quarterback, which is something the NFL world did not expect to see. But Mayfield has had a rollercoaster of a year. From the Browns to the Panthers and now to the Rams, the quarterback has been on a journey of highs and lows.
Mayfield was perhaps desperate for an opportunity since his role at the Panthers went from a team centerpiece to a sidelined spectacle. And the LA franchise provided him with what he was looking for. But it wasn’t the holiday spirit that moved the Rams to extend this offer to Mayfield.

Former linebacker and current sports analyst A.J. Hawk asked a question that has probably been on a lot of minds. Former punter Pat McAfee responded to Hawk’s question. He said, “Yes, he has a shot to play immediately. They said I don’t know how much he knows of the offense, and maybe he’s been a part of similar offenses in the past with Stefansky.” Although the conversation veered off on a tangent, McAfee thinks that Mayfield might find himself as the Rams’ starter sooner than anticipated. Their current quarterback Matthew Stafford has suffered more than one concussion this season and a reported spinal contusion.

His time with the Rams could be useful in proving himself before the quarterback hits free agency. Until then, he will be keen on making sure the league bears witness to what he can do.
