Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been someone who has believed in fighting his own battles like boxing legend Muhammad Ali. In June of 2016, the world was saddened by the passing of this legendary sporting figure. It also was a time when Kaepernick was himself under fan scrutiny because of his own beliefs outside the football field.

During his first start in the 2016 season, he was getting ready to face all the uproar for his actions. In a show of his strength and respect, Kaepernick came to the game wearing a Muhammad Ali t-shirt.

The former Super Bowl finalist believed that it was his way of paying homage to the boxing legend and his hero.

While talking about the reasons behind wearing the shirt, Kaepernick states, “He was someone that fought a very similar fight and was trying to do what is right for the people. And for me to have someone like that come before me – that is huge. He is someone that helped pave the way for this to happen…I can’t let him die in vain. I have to try to carry that on and try to fight that same fight until we accomplish our goal.
