“I Can’t Let Him Die In Vain”: Colin Kaepernick Said Farewell to Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali In Special Fashion

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been someone who has believed in fighting his own battles like boxing legend Muhammad Ali. In June of 2016, the world was saddened by the passing of this legendary sporting figure. It also was a time when Kaepernick was himself under fan scrutiny because of his own beliefs outside the football field.
During his first start in the 2016 season, he was getting ready to face all the uproar for his actions. In a show of his strength and respect, Kaepernick came to the game wearing a Muhammad Ali t-shirt.

The former Super Bowl finalist believed that it was his way of paying homage to the boxing legend and his hero.

While talking about the reasons behind wearing the shirt, Kaepernick states, “He was someone that fought a very similar fight and was trying to do what is right for the people. And for me to have someone like that come before me – that is huge. He is someone that helped pave the way for this to happen…I can’t let him die in vain. I have to try to carry that on and try to fight that same fight until we accomplish our goal.”

Kaepernick eventually left the NFL following the 2016 season and was involved in social activism, off the football field. He even was recognized for his philanthropic efforts off the field with the Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award in 2017. The influence Ali had on Kaepernick was massive, and the latter channels Ali’s fighting spirit to play in the NFL again.

Despite not getting his chance since his exit in 2016, the former Niners QB finally will have his chance. He got his chance recently as he got a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders.
There seems to be a growing optimism over his chance of returning to the NFL in a long time.
The 2022 NFL campaign will bring NFL fans who support Kaepernick and want to see him return to the game. If things go well for the QB this could possibly be his comeback season. While he continues to remain in wait, Kaepernick will be determined to make his second opportunity count.
