ESPN’s NFL journalist Adam Teicher posted an update regarding this issue on Twitter where he interviewed Cheffers on this incident.

On the reason behind the penalty, Cheffers quoted, “The quarterback is in the pocket and he’s in a passing posture. He gets full protection of all the aspects of what we give the quarterback in a passing posture. So, when he was tackled, my ruling was the defender landed on him with full body weight. The quarterback is protected from being tackled with full body weight. My ruling was roughing the passer for that reason.

While other fans were in a more attacking mode as they downright canceled the reasoning by the referee.

Meanwhile, a Chiefs fan asked why the same provisions did not apply when Patrick Mahomes got tackled.

In the end, this controversial decision would have been much more lethal in deciding the match if the receiving side didn’t go away with a 30-29 win over them. This incident also emphasized the need for accurate referring in crunch matches. What is your opinion on this matter?
