According to ESPN’s Packers Insider Rob Demovsky, the Green Bay Packers are not likely to prioritize tight ends such as Dalton Kincaid or Michael Mayer in the upcoming NFL Draft. Instead, they may have their sights set on Peter Skoronski, a tackle from Northwestern.

However, Demovsky acknowledges that it may be difficult for the Packers to draft Skoronski with the 15th overall pick, as other teams may be interested in him as well. If Skoronski is not available, the Packers may shift their focus to drafting an edge rusher, as they have a history of drafting defensive players.

“If not, you know, I think they look to an edge rusher if possible, as they draft a lot of defensive players around here,” said Demovsky

However, the Packers are known to play it safe and prioritize positions like offensive linemen and defensive players in the draft. They have not drafted a skill position player on offense in the first round in the past decade.

Packers’ GM takes absolute Love risk

The Packers GM Brian Gutekunst believes Jordan Love is prepared to take over as the starting quarterback if necessary, and they are open to exploring all options regarding Aaron Rodgers future with the team.

Gutekunst acknowledged that the team needs to have discussions with Rodgers to determine the best path forward for both him and the Packers. While Rodgers has been the starting quarterback for over a decade, Gutekunst expressed confidence in Love’s abilities and stated that he is “absolutely” ready to take on the starting role after spending three years as a backup.

But Demovsky pointed out that the team has only selected one offensive skill position player in the first round in the past decade – Jordan Love in 2020. This lack of investment in offensive weapons may have contributed to the team’s struggles in recent years and highlights the need to address this issue moving forward.

“But what’s the stat to last, but the only skill position player the Packers drafted on offense in the first round in the last decade or so was Jordan Love, which obviously didn’t help Aaron Rodgers.” shared Rob Demovsky.

Overall, while the situation with Rodgers remains uncertain, the Packers appear to have confidence in their backup quarterback and are prepared to move forward with Love if necessary. However, the team will also need to address their lack of investment in offensive playmakers to support whoever is under center in the coming years.
