“I’m Sorry We Didn’t Get It Done”: Mike Zimmer Bids Farewell To Vikings Fans Following His Firing

NFL franchise Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was the recent casualty of the chopping block in the NFL. The organization is heading for a complete reset mode, with Zygi and Mark Wilf also firing GM Rick Spielman. Minnesota ended up finishing an 8-9 win-loss record and missing the postseason for a second season running.
This is the first complete makeover of the organizational structure since the 2005 buyout by the Wilf family. While many Vikings fans will see this as a rebuild, the organization seems to be keeping faith in the current roster. The roster does have promising and talented players like Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson who will be the Vikings’ future.

Co-owner Mark Wilf states, “Our point is we have high expectations for this football team. We believe we can be super competitive right here in 2022. This is not in that mode of a full rebuild.” The Wilf brothers see this move as a level-up step and moving in a brighter direction.

Mike Zimmer Out, What’s Next?
Following Zimmer’s departure, the Vikings will be looking for the top free-agent coaches to bring to the organization. They will be looking to bring in “strong leaders, communicators, and collaborators“. The main concern from the Vikings’ offense was their lack of aggression under Zimmer. The players have been vocal about the desire to take an even better and more front-foot approach.
The owners display confidence in the current state of the roster to attract top GMs and coaches for the vacancies. They display ambition to make Vikings a contending team within their conference and one day goes to the Super Bowl. Though that remains a distant possibility, Vikings need to recognize their current predicament and take steps accordingly.

The outgoing Zimmer did release a statement stating, “I have given my heart and soul to this organization and to the players. I have had outstanding assistant coaches who have worked tirelessly. I’m sorry we didn’t get it done.”
